Rheem H2AC System

PRE-HEAT YOUR WATER…
FOR FREE!

The award-winning Rheem H2AC™ Rooftop unit featuring eSync™ integration technology is part of the industry’s first and only integrated air and water system designed specifically for full-service restaurants and other high hot water demand commercial applications. This system brings new levels of savings and efficiency to restaurants, health clubs, laundromats, hotels and other businesses by using heat that is removed from the building through the air conditioning process to pre-heat water.

ROOFTOP UNIT EFFICIENCY

With the Rheem H2AC Rooftop Unit, efficiency is significantly improved because you're able to capture heat from the air conditioning process and use it to pre-heat incoming water, instead of letting it go to waste. The adjacent chart illustrates how the H2AC Rooftop Unit is more than twice as efficient as a standard air conditioning unit.

OUR INTEGRATED SYSTEM

A typical air conditioning unit removes hot air from a building and simply transfers it outside. The H2AC Rooftop Unit captures that hot air and uses it to heat incoming water, pre-heating it to as high as 125° F before directing it to the insulated storage tank. Then, when there's a demand for hot water, tankless water heaters quickly bring the pre-heated water to the full 185° F.

ADDITIONAL SAVINGS

Many commercial applications use standard efficiency gas or electric tank-type water heaters. While the H2AC Rooftop Unit can offer you savings when matched up to an existing water heating system, we recommend using a Rheem Prestige 94% condensing tankless solution for maximum savings. The adjacent chart illustrates annual water heating costs.

NECESSITIES FOR TODAY'S RESTAURANTS

Heating, cooling and water heating are necessary expenses associated with operating a full-service restaurant. In fact, they account for almost half of a full-service restaurant's energy expenses. Heat is continuously introduced to the restaurant through cooking, restaurant guests and ambient temperature, while hot water is constantly needed for cleaning dishes and washing hands. This scenario results in a high air conditioning load and a high water heating demand, giving restaurants the title of #1 Energy User per square foot for any commercial building.

HOW TO REDUCE COST

Since it is not possible to operate your business without hot water or air conditioning, the challenge is to reduce expensive energy bills created by these processes without compromising your needs. Currently, the air conditioning process works to remove heat, while separately, the water heating process is working to add heat. Rheem offers a unique solution that enables your air conditioning and water heating systems to work together. Imagine if your air conditioning system could capture the heat you want out of the building and use it to help heat water.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is included in the Rheem Integrated Air and Water System for Restaurants?

The Integrated Air and Water System consists of the Rheem H2AC™ Rooftop Unit, Rheem Storage Tank, and Rheem Prestige Condensing Tankless Water Heaters.

What is an H2AC Rooftop Unit?

The H2AC Rooftop Unit is a conventional rooftop air conditioning unit. What sets it apart is Rheem's exclusive eSync™ Integration Technology, which allows it to act as a water heater whenever cooling is required. It can provide up to 100% of your air conditioning requirements while simultaneously pre-heating water to as high as 125° F.

  What is eSync Integration Technology

eSync Integration Technology is what enables the heat removed from a conditioned space to be transferred to incoming water. Exclusive to Rheem, this technology enables the H2AC Rooftop Unit advanced controls to automatically switch from an air-cooled condenser to a water-cooled condenser whenever there is an opportunity to pre-heat water.

What if I need water that's hotter than 125° F for my business?

The H2AC Rooftop Unit wasn't designed to supply all of your hot water needs, nor is it intended to serve as your only water heating source. It was designed to offset the energy costs of heating water to your desired temperature. The Integrated Air and Water System advantage is that it can pre-heat water to as high as 125° F for free, which significantly reduces the energy required by your water heating system to raise water temperature to your desired settings. You will still need a conventional water heating system to boost water temperatures above 125° F.

How long does it take for the Integrated Air and Water System to pay for itself?

Savings are based on an average amount of air conditioning operating hours and the amount of hot water used. Simply put, the more hot water you use while the air conditioner is operating, the faster the payback. Typically, an Integrated Air and Water System will pay for itself in less than 2 years (Payback varies based on region, climate, usage and utility rates).

Who can benefit from the Integrated Air and Water System?

The Integrated Air and Water System was specifically designed to help full-service restaurants like yours lower monthly energy costs. If your restaurant uses rooftop air conditioning units and more than 1,500 gallons of hot water per day, you'll see significant savings with this system. Other businesses that can benefit include commercial laundry facilities, school cafeterias, and hotels and other businesses that are looking to “go green.”

What's the best location for the H2AC Rooftop Unit?

In most cases, the optimal place for your H2AC Rooftop Unit is above the kitchen, since it produces the most heat. It's also best to position the H2AC Rooftop Unit, Storage Tank and Prestige Condensing Tankless Water Heaters in close proximity so you can get maximum efficiency from your Integrated Air and Water System.

How do I properly size an Integrated Air and Water System?

The H2AC Rooftop Unit is sized according to standard load-calculation methods, while the water heater is specified like any standard tank or tankless selection procedure. Your Rheem representative will be happy to provide more information and recommend a solution tailored to your restaurant.
